Stafford AD9 Filing Press Release
Elected Democratic Leader Tracie Stafford
Files Candidate Papers for California State Assembly District 9:
Sacramento, CA – Advocate and community leader Tracie Stafford today filed to run as a Democratic candidate in California State Assembly District 9 against embattled incumbent Jim Cooper, who continues to be dogged by past accusations of sexual harassment and concerns he is out of touch with his party on important issues, such as criminal justice reform.
Stafford released the following statement:
“I am an elected progressive Democratic leader, an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and a small businesswoman. I am standing up to the corporate-dominated politics in Sacramento to give voice to everyone in our community.
To change California, we need to change the people who represent us in our State Capitol. We must demand that our elected officials live our values – and live by the same rules that we do.
Too many people in California are struggling. Our families need a champion for better jobs, better schools, better response to domestic violence, more urgent work to improve our environment and a proven approach to safety that starts with working with our communities, not against them.
I will fight to:
- End unlimited campaign donations that corrupt our politics.
- Pass a California Green New Deal that lifts families into the middle class as we create new jobs reversing climate change and preventing wildfires.
- Protect our communities with foundational investments in breaking the cycle of incarceration and recidivism with job training and equal opportunity.
- Invest in quality public education for every community.
Tracie is a small businesswoman and public advocate speaking for organizations such as the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, The National Institute on the Prosecution of Domestic Violence, City Departments, Correctional Facilities, Corporations and Social Change Groups.
Tracie and her husband of 23 years, Bryan, live happily in Elk Grove. Together they raised four children in this community, the eldest of whom is a photojournalist currently on deployment with the U.S. Navy.
