OUR CIRCUMSTANCES DON'T DEFINE US
I began my career in marketing, working my way up from data entry operator to Senior Management for hi-tech companies. I eventually opened my own event marketing and management firm and quickly became a community leader, chairing boards such as The National Association of Women Business Owners and The Sacramento Small Business Board. I also sat on a number of boards including The Birthing Project International, The Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce and was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to the California Small Business Board.
However, my life truly began to have meaning when I broke my lifelong silence, before the California State Legislature in 2008, disclosing the abuse that I had suffered as a third generation domestic violence victim. Also a child abuse and sexual assault survivor, I began sharing my story Internationally to heal myself and inspire others to Aspire Beyond Survivor.
Today, I am happily married with four children and a public advocate speaking for organizations such as the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, The National Institute on the Prosecution of Domestic Violence, City Departments, Correctional Facilities and Social Change Groups. I am also honored to be a survivor advocate for the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, spokesperson for Purple Light Nights International, and was recently crowned Mrs. U.S. Virgin Islands, the territory’s spokesperson for the Women in Need Foundation.
